Her Story

From Surviving to Thriving

Natasha Johnigan established her writing career in 1992, captivating the nation with her "CJ" story published in Ebony Magazine — a raw, unflinching account that alerted the country to the realities of HIV/AIDS. Her words sparked a nationwide conversation and prompted a significant increase in HIV testing across the country. Natasha had always known her voice could change lives. That story proved it.

In 2002, she self-published Unconditional, a novel exploring the complexities of unconventional relationships. In 2011, she wrote, directed, and produced Consequences, a theatrical stage play that sold out three nights. Then in July 2016, Natasha co-created and co-directed her first web series, My Pastor's Wife — a bold, controversial story that kept audiences talking long after the credits rolled.

But it was her most personal work that would become her most powerful. In Twisted Thoughts: Navigating the Grief, Natasha takes readers on a raw and emotional journey through the depths of her soul — confronting the traumas of her past and the devastating loss of her son to gun violence. With unflinching honesty, she shares her harrowing experiences, from a tumultuous childhood marked by abuse and neglect to the heart-wrenching moment she received the news no mother should ever hear.

Through therapy, self-reflection, and the unwavering support of loved ones, Natasha embarked on a courageous quest for healing and redemption. She discovered the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of forgiveness — and she wrote it all down so that other women would know: you are not alone, and healing is possible.

That same spirit of healing and empowerment lives in her latest works. Snapback, Sis is a practical, soul-stirring guide for women ready to reclaim their joy after heartbreak and loss. And Open Gate is an invitation to walk through the door you have been afraid to open — a deep exploration of grief, identity, and the courage it takes to step into a life that truly belongs to you. Together, these books form a roadmap for every woman who has ever felt broken and dared to believe she could be whole again.
